The KID is an Improvement District
under the umbrella of the Ministry of Community, Aboriginal and and Women's
Services (formerly Municipal Affairs). Our drinking and irrigation water
system is managed by five elected Board of Trustees and two staff members.
The District
is the largest water purveyor on the west side of Skaha Lake and is located
approximately halfway between Penticton and Okanagan Falls. Skaha Lake, the
water source, supplies irrigation and domestic use for this rugged, steeply
inclined terrain. Considered semi-arid, this area relies heavily on water
for it's existence.
We operate a water
system for both domestic and irrigation use for approximately 550 residential
connections and 156 hectares (386 acres) acres of agricultural land. Components
of the existing distribution system include an intake pump station on Skaha
Lake, three balancing reservoirs, two booster pump stations, a pressure reducing station and a network of pipelines.
Aside from its main purpose, the KID also provides and maintains fire
hydrants and operates
and maintains the Kaleden Cemetery.
